Hypertufa Class At Fernwood Nursery

Picture 037We’ve changed the date for our upcoming Hypertufa building class. What’s hypertufa? It’s a mixture of cement, peat moss, and perlite , which can then be shaped or molded into containers for planting. The result looks like a stone container but is much lighter. It can then be planted with a wide variety of plants…..succulents, small hostas, moss, just to name a few. Hypertufa ages beautifully, often attracting mosses and lichens that will grow on its surface. We have several here at the nursery that we’ve made and feel that they really add to the garden landscape.Picture 661
Rick will lead the class and participants will be able to leave with their hypertufa in hand. Class is limited to 10 people and we still have a few spots open, so let us know if you’d like to come and build your own planter! Tea and freshly baked scones will be available for class participants. Check out our page on classes for more information and details about signing up or contact us at fernwoodnursery@ fairpoint.net. 1. Is the Hypertufa class on Monday, June 2nd, or Tuesday, June 3rd? The class indicates Monday, June 3rd.

    Thank you!

    • Hi Robin,
I somehow forgot to hit the update button on our class page. The class is Sunday, June 22nd from 10:00 am -Noon. Would you like to sign up? Thank you for your interest and let me know if you need any info.

  2. I just saw the class you are holding on 6-25; unfortunately I am not available that week. I would love to try this, so, please, let me know when you schedule another class.

going to garden guardians tomorrow too, while we are in Portland/S. Ptld. You still have time to put in a request. LOL

    • Hi Helen,
The class is the 22nd…does that make a difference? We also visited a shop on Exchange street called ‘folly 101’. It too, was delightful. Oh….I wish I were going to portland! Have fun and if you can’t make this class, we’re sure to have another one. We’ll keep you posted.
